Built in 2001, just a few blocks from BakerRipley’s original buildings, Ripley House represents the 116-year legacy that BakerRipley has in Houston’s historic East End.

Ripley House serves as a hub for neighborhood activity, including lively programs for senior adults as well as BakerRipley Community Schools at Ripley House.

As the East End evolves, Ripley House will continue to meet the changing needs of its Neighbors while staying true to its roots in the community.

Programs & Services

The BakerRipley Ripley House Community Center offers many programs and services. If you would like to discover and get connected with the programs and services that can benefit you, there is a Community Resource Specialist onsite for your convenience every day at Ripley House. Our offerings include:

BakerRipley’s Civic Engagement program has an array of services helping Neighbors learn how to become a:

  • confident and well-informed voter through the Voter Engagement program
  • powerful community member and agent of change through the Civic Education program
  • trained leader or “Community Engineer” through the Leadership Training & Development program

The Digital Skills program helps you access information and resources on a computer or mobile device. Your confidence and understanding of technology-based skills will set you up for success. To learn more or sign up for Digital Skills classes send us a message.

Entrepreneur Connection at BakerRipley provides education, resources, and access to capital for anyone who is an aspiring entrepreneur or has an existing business. The program offers classes, business coaching, networking events, and a host of other services to help small businesses launch, grow, and thrive.

BakerRipley’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program offers more than just language learning. It equips you with the necessary knowledge and abilities to thrive in the United States and make meaningful contributions to your community. The program caters to learners of all levels of English proficiency, from beginners to advanced.

BakerRipley offers GED Classes that serve as a High School Equivalency (HSE) program, providing educational assistance to Neighbors without a high school diploma. These classes are open to everyone, free of charge. Our GED classes cover a range of subjects including reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies, to help prepare individuals to pass the GED test and achieve their educational goals.

BakerRipley’s Neighborhood Tax Centers operate the largest local IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program that helps taxpayers maximize their refunds by offering FREE, quality tax preparation services for individuals and families who make less than $58,000 per year.

Our tax center here at Ripley House is open for Neighbors every day.

BakerRipley’s Utility Assistance Program is designed to meet your immediate needs by providing financial support for your utilities. We are currently only accepting applications for water bill payment assistance.

Utility Assistance is offered onsite on Tuesdays from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

The Ripley House Community Center offers a wide variety of classes for children and adults. Subjects have included Taekwondo, Folkloric Dance, Cake Decorating, Zumba, Guitar, Healthy Cooking, Watercolor and more!

The Fall 2023 semester runs from September 5 through December 9. Membership is required and space is limited. Contact us to learn more or to register for upcoming sessions. 

BakerRipley Community Schools

Serving students Pre-K to 8th grade

Our classrooms offer a robust curriculum, small student-teacher ratios, and a welcoming environment where every child knows they matter.

BakerRipley Community Schools at the Ripley House are free of charge to families, and prepare students for the highest levels of academics, leadership, and personal excellence.

Senior Center

Serving active adults age 60 and older at locations throughout Harris County.

BakerRipley’s Senior Health and Wellness Centers are more than Bingo and a congregate meal. They are lively, laughter-filled places for community, friendship, and activities that promote physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.

Community Center Memberships

BakerRipley Community Centers offer family and individual memberships. Membership provides access to a wide variety of classes and experiences.

Facility Rentals

The BakerRipley campuses offer numerous spaces available for rent, including a large gym/reunion hall, small and medium classrooms, and outdoor space at Alexander Park.

Free parking, tables, chairs, and guest wifi are included with your rental and members of BakerRipley Community Centers receive a discount when renting any of our facilities. To check available space, dates, and pricing for your gathering, please contact rentals@bakerripley.org
