Located in the most diverse neighborhood of the United States, the BakerRipley Gulfton Sharpstown Community Center opened in 2010 and has been a source of connection and growth ever since. Today, it is part of a robust network of social services and medical providers in Southwest Houston.

Community Center Memberships

BakerRipley Community Centers offer family and individual memberships. Membership provides access to a wide variety of classes and experiences.

Individual Youth

$50 per year for ages 0-18
Individual Adult

$75 per year for ages 19-59
Individual Senior

$35 per year for ages 60+
Family

$150 per year for 2 adults and any children in your household.

BakerRipley’s Learning and Innovation Centers are designed to be places of inspiration—environments that offer unique learning experiences, tools, and opportunities—so everyone can create with the latest technology.

BakerRipley Community School

The BakerRipley Community School at Gulfton Sharpstown serves students in pre-K through grade 5. Our classrooms offer a robust curriculum, small student-teacher ratios, and a welcoming environment where every child knows they matter.

BakerRipley Community Schools are free of charge to families, and prepare students for the highest levels of academics, leadership, and personal excellence.

The BakerRipley Gulfton Sharpstown Community Center offers many programs and services. Our offerings include:

BakerRipley’s Civic Engagement program has an array of services helping Neighbors learn how to become a

confident and well-informed voter through the Voter Engagement program
powerful community member and agent of change through the Civic Education program
trained leader or “Community Engineer” through the Leadership Training & Development program

The Digital Skills program helps you access information and resources on a computer or mobile device. Your confidence and understanding of technology-based skills will set you up for success. To learn more or sign up for Digital Skills classes send us a message.

BakerRipley’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program offers more than just language learning. It equips you with the necessary knowledge and abilities to thrive in the United States and make meaningful contributions to your community. The program caters to learners of all levels of English proficiency, from beginners to advanced.

BakerRipley offers GED Classes that serve as a High School Equivalency (HSE) program, providing educational assistance to Neighbors without a high school diploma. These classes are open to everyone, free of charge. Our GED classes cover a range of subjects including reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies, to help prepare individuals to pass the GED test and achieve their educational goals.

The Immigration and Citizenship program at BakerRipley partners with immigrant communities to support a continuum of legal and social work services that help Neighbors learn, earn, belong and be well—including education and outreach, citizenship classes, legal assistance, social services, and referrals to other BakerRipley services.

We offer a variety of programs that use pitch competitions, classes, business coaching, networking events, and more to help small businesses launch, grow, and thrive.

BakerRipley’s Neighborhood Tax Centers operate the largest local IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program that helps taxpayers maximize their refunds by offering FREE, quality tax preparation services for individuals and families who make less than $58,000 per year.

Our tax center here at the Gulfton Sharpstown campus is open for Neighbors every day located in Suite C-101

Utility Assistance representatives are on-site on Thursdays from 8 AM – 5 PM. For all other days of the week, please call the Utility Assistance Hotline at 713-590-2327 . The Community Center staff are not able to provide information about pending applications.

Helping job seekers improve their skills, find employment, and advance their careers.

Offered every second Thursday of the month from 10:00am – 1:00pm.

The Gulfton Sharpstown Community Center offers a wide variety of classes for children and adults. Subjects have included Piano, Violin, and Guitar, STEM, Cake Decorating, Sewing Club, Taekwondo and more!

The Fall 2023 runs from September 5 through December 9. Membership is required and space is limited. Contact us to learn more or to register for upcoming sessions.

Support the Cause and Make a Difference

Volunteers are a crucial part of our ability to serve so many Neighbors. We have various opportunities within our Tax Assistance program for those looking to help Houston families, such as tax preparation, intake specialists, and translators.

Facility Rentals

The BakerRipley campuses offer numerous spaces available for rent, including a large gym/reunion hall, small and medium classrooms, and outdoor space at Alexander Park.

Free parking, tables, chairs, and guest wifi are included with your rental and members of BakerRipley Community Centers receive a discount when renting any of our facilities. To check available space, dates, and pricing for your gathering, please contact rentals@bakerripley.org
