Melissa’s Beauty Salon and Western Wear: A Dream Realized

Teresa came to the United States from El Salvador nearly 33 years ago. She studied cosmetology and obtained her license, then opened her own business: Melissa’s Beauty Salon and Western Wear, located in Northside.

Rebuilding with BakerRipley: A Story of Support and Growth

In 2008, Hurricane Ike flooded Teresa’s business as well as her home. BakerRipley helped her rebuild.

“The staff helped me a lot because they encouraged me to continue,” she says. Later, Teresa enrolled in classes at BakerRipley to improve her English and learn computer skills.

“When I came to this country I couldn’t speak any English. Now, I feel comfortable to understand some people and speak in English.”

With her new skills, Teresa is able to serve customers in English as well as Spanish. And she has continued to expand her business, adding notary public services as well. “I’m looking to grow my business with more customers, and provide service to the community,” she says. “This is my wish.”

Teresa encourages others to take advantage of BakerRipley’s services and make the most of the opportunities that are available. “BakerRipley’s impact on my life, it’s amazing,” says Teresa. “The opportunities they give me for my business and my family to be well…I want to say thanks so much and God bless you.”
